Chido Obi-Martin is one of the most exciting youth prospects currently on the books at Arsenal. Here is everything you need to you know about this potential star of the future.

Chidozie Obi-Martin, who more commonly goes by Chido Obi, could be one of the next big things at Arsenal.

He is in flying form right now for Jack Wilshere’s under-18s side, and Mikel Arteta will already be paying close attention to the Hale End academy star, who may well be the natural heir to Gabriel Jesus at the Emirates Stadium.

Earlier this season, Chido Obi stunned pundits as he racked up ten goals in a single match against Liverpool at under-16s level. On Saturday, for the under-18s, he bagged a four-goal haul against Crystal Palace.

Who is Chido Obi?

Obi is an exciting youth prospect in the Arsenal academy set up. He has been with the Gunners since the age of fourteen. He has progressed through the youth levels rapidly, and now the 16-year-old has even been likened to Victor Osimhen.

When he was just 15-years-old, Obi featured for the Arsenal under-21s team. On top of that, in November 2023, Arteta invited Obi to train with the Arsenal first-team for the first time, as reported by Metro.

When and where was Chido Obi born?

Obi was born on November 29th, 2007, in a town in Denmark called Glostrup, near Copenhagen. He has a Danish mother and a Nigerian father.

What international team does Chido Obi play for?

Due to his parentage, and having moved to Britain as a child, Obi is eligible represent Denmark, Nigeria, and England at international level. So far, the teenager has made eight under-16s appearances for Denmark, and has two caps for England at that level, too. 

Most recently he has amassed nine under-17s outings for Denmark. Until he is capped in a competitive game at senior international level, though, his options remain open.

What position does Chido Obi play?

Obi is an out-and-out striker. At youth level for Arsenal he plays through middle, battling with centre-backs and spearheading the attack.

How good is Chido Obi?

There is plenty of excitement about Obi at Arsenal and beyond. He clearly has vast potential. However, that is no guarantee that he will become a star at senior level. For a variety of reasons, many extremely talented youngsters have failed to clear that final hurdle and make the grade in senior football before.

However, if he can reach the heights that many expect of him, then Obi could become a goal machine for the Gunners. He is quick, strong, and a lethal finisher. His movement is sharp and he is technically secure.
