Arsenal have made another addition to Mikel Arteta’s backroom staff, adding Gabriel Heinze as a new assistant coach.
The Gunners had been on the search for a new option in the coaching staff, following Carlos Cuesta’s exit to Parma.
After a process of looking for new options, Mikel Arteta decided to add Gabriel Heinze to his team for the coming season.

Before stepping into coaching, Gabriel Heinze had a career as a professional football player during the 1990s and 2000s.
He played as a defender, featuring for eight different teams, including spells at PSG, Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Gabriel Heinze’s coaching career
After retiring in 2014, Gabriel Heinze quickly moved into management, taking a role with Godoy Cruz in 2015.
After leaving within a year, he had another short spell with Argentinos Juniors, before a three-year stint at Velez Sarsfield.
One-year stays at Atlanta United and Newell’s Old Boys followed, while he is now an assistant at Arsenal.
As a manager, he has won the Primera B Nacional with Argentinos Juniors.

While both had very different playing careers, the paths of Gabriel Heinze and Mikel Arteta have crossed in the past.
Both played for PSG at the same time, with Heinze spending three years there from 2001 until 2004, while Arteta was on loan there from Barcelona from 2001 until 2002.
