Arsenal weren’t expected to witness any unexpected departures this summer.

The Gunners have a solid squad and an even better coaching staff. The core of both those groups was set to remain unchanged, but there was a twist in the tale recently.

One of Mikel Arteta’s assistants, Carlos Cuesta, who is still only 29, was offered a job by Parma to become their manager for next season.

That was an incredible opportunity for someone so young, and the Spaniard decided to leave Arsenal and accept the role at Parma

Now, the Italian club have sent a message to the Gunners.

Parma make a promise to Arsenal about Carlos Cuesta

Mikel Arteta has lost some of his assistants before.

Andreas Georgson left the Gunners to become a sporting manager at Malmo in the summer of 2021, but he then returned and joined Manchester United. Now, the Swede has become one of Thomas Frank’s assistants at Tottenham.

Another popular name to leave the Arsenal coaching staff was Steve Round. The Englishman left the club after three-and-a-half years there, and he is now the assistant manager of Derby County.

Cuesta is the latest to leave Arsenal, but The Athletic have revealed that he is ‘the first member of the coaching team to depart the inner circle against Arteta’s wishes’.

That tells you that the Arsenal manager really wanted Cuesta to stay, but you can’t fault him for taking up a big job at his age.

Now, following his appointment, Parma have made a promise to Arsenal that they will take care of the 29-year-old in Italy.

“Don’t worry Arsenal, we’ll take good care of him,” they wrote in a tweet along with a picture of Cuesta holding the Parma shirt.

Carlos Cuesta could still help Arsenal after leaving

Cuesta will have his own ideas at Parma, who finished 16th in the Serie A table last season.

The Italian side have their players and will look to bring in others as well, but Arteta could use his relationship with Cuesta to help each other out.

Arsenal have many young and fringe players who need opportunities elsewhere, and Cuesta could sign a couple of them on loan for next season.

Nuno Tavares’ transfer value has shot up after his loan spell in Italy; the same could happen with a few Arsenal players too if they are sent to Cuesta’s Parma.

Arteta may not have liked Cuesta leaving, but the two Spaniards could still help each other out this summer.
