Arsenal and Bruno Guimaraes is a rumour that is firmly gathering pace at the moment despite the World Cup going on.

Guimaraes has once again emerged as a top target for Mikel Arteta, who is keen to strengthen his midfield after winning the title last year.

A number of players have been linked already but it is the name of Guimaraes which seems to really be picking up steam in the last few days.

However, it seems that Newcastle might well have themselves to blame for this transfer.

Bruno Guimaraes posted this video about Arsenal in 2022. Do you still want to sign him?

Arsenal actually asked about Bruno Guimaraes after Newcastle offered them Sandro Tonali

We’ve all heard the rumours involving Sandro Tonali to Arsenal and at one point it looked like he was going to be the one who signed.

However, The Chronicle is reporting that it was because of Tonali that Arsenal have moved for Guimaraes.

They write how it was actually Newcastle who offered Tonali to Arsenal at a price of around £100m.

But while Arsenal were happy to be included in conversations over the Italian, Newcastle’s openness to doing business actually prompted the Gunners to ask about Guimaraes.

It is from here that the situation has spiralled, with intermediaries and agents taking on that encouragement and working behind the scenes to push Arsenal towards a bid.

So, it seems that while Arsenal’s interest in the Brazilian is a long-term thing, it is actually the Magpies who have shot themselves in the foot here.

Come the end of the summer, if Newcastle have lost both Guimaraes and Tonali, then the fans up in the northeast will be rightfully fuming.

As for Arsenal, the idea of adding Guimaraes to an already brilliant squad is something for The Emirates crowd to be excited about.

Alongside Declan Rice, Guimaraes would give Arsenal one of the best all-action midfields in Europe.

And, at the reported £60m being mentioned, he might end up being one of the bargains of the summer as well.
