Why William Saliba is ready to snub Real Madrid to stay at Arsenal

Amid all of William Saliba’s continued success in north London, there have been a few nagging anxieties in the mind of Arsenal fans regarding a move to Real Madrid.

Saliba arrived at Arsenal during Unai Emery’s time in charge back in 2019, a player who then returned to Ligue 1 twice on loan.

Eventually, Mikel Arteta handed Saliba his chance once he considered the centre-back to be ready, a situation that seems to have been handled brilliantly.

Since, Saliba has become one of those best centre-backs in world football, a title that isn’t even debatable.

Although, many Arsenal fans will hope that the Frenchman soon wins the trophies to further justify that claim, and they’ll hope those victories come in north London.

As, despite signing a new contract with the club in 2023, Real Madrid are still interested in luring Saliba from Arsenal.

William Saliba ‘very happy’ with his progress under Mikel Arteta

Saliba has a contract with Arsenal until 2027, guaranteeing at least two more seasons at the club after this current campaign is complete.

But fans will already be keeping everything crossed that Saliba isn’t planning to make his next career move at the juncture.

And if that is to be the case, Arsenal supporters will be praying that Saliba wins it all at the club beforehand.

That being said, TEAMtalk have just provided some encouraging news in that regard.

When reporting on Madrid’s continued interest, it was stated that Saliba is ‘very happy’ at the Emirates Stadium and that he would like to continue to progress under Arteta.

The two are said to have an ‘excellent’ relationship and Arsenal quite obviously view the Frenchman as a vital player in their squad – there’s zero intention of allowing him to leave.

Wojciech Szczesny has been scouting out talent for Arsenal

With or with Saliba – which isn’t an expression Arsenal fans will want to hear too often, the club do still need one more centre-back.

In truth, all of Takehiro Tomiyasu, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Jakub Kiwior and Kieran Tierney might have left Arsenal by the end of next year once the club have streamlined their defence.

That will require the addition of a new left-back of course, but also the Gunners will need to find someone capable of deputising for Saliba at right centre-back.

Ben White can move inside but then his qualities would be missed as a full-back.

That being said, former Gunner Wojciech Szczesny has been doing some scouting for Arsenal at Barcelona.
