‘Will destroy them’: Paul Merson predicts Arsenal vs Tottenham result

It’s Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby this weekend, and Paul Merson has now revealed his prediction.

The Gunners and Spurs have started the season in identical fashion. Both clubs have won four and drawn one of their first five Premier League games, and someone’s unbeaten record could come to an end on Sunday.

Here’s what Merson thinks will happen in the North London derby.

Paul Merson predicts the result of Arsenal vs Tottenham

Arsenal will go into the game against Tottenham as the favourites this Sunday.

Yes, Spurs have looked the better side so far this season, but Mikel Arteta‘s men have picked up the same number of points despite not playing their best football, and that says a lot.

In our last game, Arsenal absolutely battered PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League. Yes, there is still a lot of room for improvement between the two boxes, but some of the football we played was nothing short of extraordinary.

Arsenal will take a lot of confidence from that game, and if we play at our usual level, we should be able to beat Tottenham without too much trouble on Sunday.

Merson believes Tottenham have a chance if they sit back and try to hit us on the counter. However, if they try to go toe-to-toe with us, the pundit thinks Ange Postecoglou’s side will get destroyed.

Here’s what he said on Sportskeeda: “I’m very bullish, but I think Arsenal will win this game easily. Tottenham have started the season well – there’s no question about it. However, if they play gung-ho football and look to take the game to Arsenal, the Gunners will destroy them.

“If they stay quiet and look to nick a goal on the counter, they could be in with a chance, but I can’t see that happening as that’s not how they’ve played so far under Ange Postecoglou.

“Arsenal are coming on the back of a resounding win against PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League and should top that up with another impressive result at the Emirates Stadium.”

The Insider’s View:

We don’t want to be overconfident and jinx anything, especially just before a North London derby. However, we can’t help but agree with Merson here.

Tottenham have looked really good this season. Postecoglou has completely transformed his side, but Spurs are yet to face a team as good as ours.

If Arsenal start well as we usually do in games like these, we should be able to find spaces to exploit in their final third. Once that happens, it’s our game to lose.

We just can’t wait for the derby on Sunday.
