Aaron Ramsdale’s dad, Nick, has had his say on Kai Havertz’s performances for Arsenal since his move from Chelsea in the summer.

There probably isn’t another player in Arsenal’s first-team squad who has been criticised as much as Havertz since the start of this season. The German has been the number one target for pundits and the media, but Ramsdale’s dad has leapt to his defence now.

Arsenal signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea for £65 million in the summer.

Nobody really expected Mikel Arteta to sign the German after his fairly underwhelming spell at Stamford Bridge, but the Gunners manager was adamant he wanted him.

Havertz joined us in the summer and it has to be said that he hasn’t lived up to his price tag yet. He has come under a lot of criticism in recent months, with many already calling him a flop.

Nick Ramsdale, however, has urged everyone to cut Havertz some slack as every time he watches the German play, he feels he works extremely hard for the team.

On Highbury Squad last night, Ramsdale Sr said: “The guy works his socks off, but it’s just not working for him at the moment. Whether he’s found the right position or whatever, I don’t know. But you just can’t say ‘he doesn’t work hard’.

“To me, watching him home and away, he doesn’t just amble around taking the money. I think we ought to give the guy a bit of slack, he didn’t ask to be signed for £65 million.”

Havertz really is getting better at Arsenal

Some of the criticism that has come Havertz’s way is definitely warranted, but you have to admit that the Arsenal number 29 has looked much better in recent weeks.

Yes, the German is still nowhere close to justifying his massive price tag, but the Havertz we’ve seen in the last three games is on another level compared to the guy we saw at the start of the season.

We’re not asking you to say Havertz is world-class, we just feel the 24-year-old deserves a bit more time and love before we completely disregard him.

Hopefully, Havertz comes good for us and silences his critics after the international break.
