10 goal and 10 assist defender could be an incredible signing for Arteta at Arsenal next season

Although there’s still a lot to be achieved at Arsenal this season, Mikel Arteta must have one eye on the summer ahead.

Arteta and Edu Gaspar planned so diligently in the off-season last year, executing deals for the likes of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz so efficiently.

And Arsenal fans will probably expect the same this year, especially given how quiet January was.

It would seem there’s a fair few profiles on the wishlist, perhaps with a striker taking the priority of plans.

However, it’s clear that Arsenal could still use one or two additions at the back, an area of the squad that’s been stretched all season.

Jurrien Timber’s return to fitness will definitely help in the remaining months of this season and next, but new faces would still be welcome.

And although Ben White is once again having a remarkable season at right-back, Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong could now represent an excellent addition to the squad.

Arsenal aren’t struggling going forwards right now, but the right back would still add another dimension to their attacking play.

Mikel Arteta should consider deal to take Jeremie Frimpong to Arsenal next summer

Frimpong has been linked to Arsenal in the past, but it seems interest has cooled for now.

However, having now registered 10 goals and 10 assists for Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen this season, his form simply cannot be ignored.

Right now Frimpong is playing in a very advanced role on the right, finding himself in attacking positions very often.

And given how Arteta has seen his Arsenal side evolve since the summer, with Ben White now playing the Oleksandr Zinchenko role, that could suit the club perfectly.

Frimpong could be that extra player in midfield, or he could simply be an overlapping wing-back if the situation required it.

Much like Timber was intended to be this season before his injury, Frimpong could add a ton of tactical flexibility to Arteta’s disposal at the Emirates.

And given Xabi Alonso is constantly being linked with a move away from Leverkusen, it may not be a bad time to try and tempt Frimpong away in the summer too.

Arteta will have his targets already, and fans will be in luck if Frimpong is indeed in the thinking.

All that being said, one former Arsenal player has admitted that he ‘dreams’ of playing for the club again one day.
