£43m Arsenal target just did something v Real Madrid that shows why Edu must sign him

Arsenal have been linked with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko amongst others ahead of the summer transfer window.

It appears that Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen his attacking options, and several centre-forwards and wingers have been linked.

Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney are two more proven strikers who could come at a significant cost, but younger, cheaper alternatives are available, and Sesko is a player they could invest in instead.

RB Leipzig, like Arsenal, are in the Champions League knockout stages, and they played against Real Madrid in the first leg of their tie last night, with Sesko starting the game. Despite falling to a 1-0 defeat, Sesko did enough to show why he could be worth investing in.

Benjamin Sesko’s bright display against Real Madrid

There was controversy within two minutes in the tie as Sesko headed in superbly to give Leipzig the lead, but the goal was disallowed for offside, despite the striker standing in an onside position, and goalkeeper Andriy Lunin perhaps got away with a warning.

Lunin then produced a magnificent performance to keep a clean sheet for Real Madrid, but Sesko still impressed. His speed, physicality and technical ability were on display against one of the best teams in the world.

Sesko did miss three chances, but these were not glaring misses, and he did force strong saves from Lunin, with the shots coming as a result of his clever movement and excellent physicality.

The Slovenian is just 20, yet he hardly looked out of place against the La Liga giants, holding onto the ball well and impressing with his speed and shot power on counter-attacks.

Why Benjamin Sesko suits Arsenal

Sesko has a release clause of just £43m, and this makes him much cheaper for Edu Gaspar than the likes of Toney or Osimhen. Whilst he is far from the finished product, his display against Real Madrid showed that he has all the tools in his locker to become a top striker.

Gabriel Jesus has been criticised this season, but is still a top-quality player and option at centre-forward. With Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz also starting upfront in recent Arsenal wins, the need for a huge investment at centre-forward, to land a player who still may not guarantee goals, may now be lower.

Sesko showed that what Jesus lacks in speed and aerial threat, he can provide, and the two could even play together upfront given their contrasting styles. Sesko also showed the ability to hit the target from tighter angles, whilst also possessing great speed for someone of his side.

Should Mikel Arteta have Sesko at his disposal, he could be eased in initially, and develop alongside Jesus with little pressure on him to deliver immediately, and given the chances Arsenal create and Sesko’s natural ability, it may not be too long before he starts finding the back of the net at a deadly rate if he makes the move to North London.
