A major detail about Arsenal’s North London Derby win over Tottenham is being overlooked by everyone

Arsenal are the talk of the Premier League, but one element of the Gunners’ win over Tottenham is not being spoken about enough.

Mikel Arteta sent a statement to the rest of the Premier League as Arsenal went six points clear at the top of the table.

On a week when Manchester City and Liverpool lost, all eyes were on Arsenal to deliver, and that’s just what they did, and then even more.

The Gunners humiliated Thomas Frank by scoring four against Spurs, something that, despite Arsenal’s strength, very few would’ve anticipated.

Nobody is talking about Tottenham’s away record before they visited Arsenal 

Spurs fans dread travelling to the Emirates, having won just once at the ground in the Premier League since its opening in 2006.

This season, however, it was expected that the North London Derby would be different, as Tottenham rolled up to N5 boasting the best away record in the league.

Before kick-off, Frank’s side were unbeaten in their opening five league games on the road, winning four, scoring 12 and conceding just three.

Arsenal weren’t ready to allow Spurs’ record to extend, stopping it in its tracks quite remarkably, scoring four and dominating proceedings from start to finish.

While everyone is talking about how Arsenal dominated Spurs, very few are talking about the condition that Frank’s team arrived at the Emirates in, heading into the contest with confidence.

The Gunners made a mockery of Tottenham’s previous away form, a narrative that needs to be delved into, given the high scoreline.

Even Arsenal legends were wary of Tottenham’s away form

Before the game, there was so much talk about Tottenham’s away record, so much so that even some Arsenal legends were cautious.

Thierry Henry mentioned Spurs’ away form when previewing the match, and expected the game to be an ‘interesting one’ due to the visitors’ unbeaten record.

On talkSPORT, Martin Keown was even more wary, as he went as far as to say he was concerned about Tottenham’s form on the road. 

“What concerns me this weekend is Spurs’ away form. Spurs at home it’s like two different entities. At home, it’s like one win in five, and I think they’ve won four out of five away from home.

“Their manager is very good at slowing things down, just quietening the crowd, and the keeper just puts his foot on the ball.

“I’ve had a little look this week to see what they do away from home, and they do it really well.”

It appears that Arsenal are an exception, as at the Emirates, Spurs did everything but cope ‘really well’, which is a testament to just how good the Gunners are right now.
