Alexander Isak’s latest decision proves that Arsenal have made a £63m mistake

It is no secret that Arsenal have been long-term admirers of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

The Gunners were first interested in the Swedish striker back in January 2022 before deciding that his lack of Premier League experience was too risky. Newcastle pounced in the summer of 2022.

54 goals later, the 25-year-old is now one of the best strikers in world football and Isak is Mikel Arteta’s dream striker.

The Swede is desperate to leave Newcastle this summer and Liverpool are the front-runners for his signature. Arsenal have not learned their lesson from three years ago.

Alexander Isak statement proves Arsenal moved too early for Viktor Gyokeres

As per the Daily Mail, Newcastle striker Isak has taken to his Instagram account to break his silence on wanting a move away from St James’s Park.

Isak wrote: “I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken, that silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors.

“The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading.

“When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.”

The situation seems destined in Isak parting ways from the Magpies and Arsenal have missed out on the striker yet again.

Viktor Gyokeres was signed for £63m this summer and fans are excited by the prospect of the 27-year-old making an impact at the Emirates Stadium.

However, he is not proven in the Premier League and if the Gunners must surely have known about Isak’s desire to leave Newcastle before the summer transfer window.

The question from supporters will now be over why the club didn’t make a move for a player that was clearly Arteta’s first choice.

Arsenal are set for an underwhelming transfer window

Andrea Berta may have brought six new faces to the club this summer, however, there is a real question mark over how many of those players were Arteta’s preference.

Martin Zubimendi was secured last summer after conversations with Arteta and previous sporting directors.

However, we know that Isak was Arteta’s choice at centre forward and the Gunners’ boss is a huge admirer of Rodrygo at Real Madrid.

Arsenal also pursued Dean Huijsen before the defender ended up in Madrid and it now has to be considered that Arteta has once again been let down in the market.

If the Gunners fail to bring in another attacking option, they would have failed to address one of their priorities of the window at left wing and can have no complaints when it ultimately costs them silverware in vital moments of the campaign.
