Anthony Gordon to Arsenal is one of the latest rumours doing the rounds as the January window ticks along.

Signed by Newcastle for £50m, Gordon’s career has been on an upward curve so far and in general, he has impressed at St James’ Park and put his stamp on the England squad.

There are suggestions that Andrea Berta would love to sign Gordon for Arsenal but any idea of the club even making a move for him will have to wait until the summer at least.

How much is an acceptable price to pay for Anthony Gordon in the summer, if any? 😳

However, while there’ll be some who are excited by the prospect of Gordon wearing Arsenal red, it’s also worth noting just how poor he has been in recent times.

And after playing in today’s 0-0 draw with Wolves, Gordon has now tipped over an unwanted landmark.

Anthony Gordon’s lack of goals shows he’s not the man for Arsenal

For all the hype around Anthony Gordon and what he obviously possesses in terms of pace, attacking threat and being able to help teams score goals, this season has been a dismal one for him.

While things have flowed nicer for Gordon in the more open Champions League games – he has five goals and two assists this season – his league form is worryingly bad.

Indeed, after not managing to hit the back of the net against Wolves today, it means Gordon has now gone over a year (368 days) without scoring a league goal from open play.

His only two goals in the league all season came from spot-kicks in successive weeks at the start of December.

Worryingly as well, Gordon has only added one assist to his tally in the Premier League as well.

Looking just at those basic metrics shows that right now, he is not what Arsenal need.

Anthony Gordon compared to Arsenal’s wingers

While the current form of Anthony Gordon might not be the best, it’s worth noting that really, only Bukayo Saka in this current Arsenal team is doing better.

In a way, it highlights why Arsenal need more from their wide players really and someone has to take the pressure off of Saka.

Tell us honestly…would Anthony Gordon be an upgrade for Arsenal?

As of right now, signing Gordon would simply add to a string of players not doing enough in terms of goal output.

Gordon can do it, he scored nine last season and set up another seven. But at the very highest level, it could be a step too far for him.
