Arsenal can suddenly take advantage of UEFA’s new rule to cause ‘chaos’ in the Champions League

Arsenal have been near-flawless in the Champions League so far this season.

The Gunners have won each of their first five games in the league phase, conceding just one goal in the process. That is truly phenomenal.

Arsenal’s brilliant start in the competition has earned them the tag of being the favourites to win it, which is very exciting for the fans.

Now, Mikel Arteta could introduce further ‘chaos’ by exploiting UEFA’s new rule to bring Gabriel Jesus into the equation.

How many goals do you think Gabriel Jesus would’ve scored for Arsenal if he hadn’t suffered his injuries?

Arsenal can add Gabriel Jesus to their Champions League squad thanks to new UEFA rule

Jesus hasn’t played a minute of football since suffering his knee injury in January this year.

The Brazil international was in the form of his life back then, but he tore his ACL in an FA Cup game against Manchester United at the Emirates.

Jesus had to undergo surgery and go through a tough recovery process. It has been a long road back for him, but he is fit again now.

With a game against Club Brugge coming up, Arteta could use the clash to give the 28-year-old his first competitive minutes since his return from injury. But Jesus is not in Arsenal’s Champions League squad.

That could change now following Cristhian Mosquera’s injury, which is set to keep him out for six to eight weeks.

A new UEFA rule introduced for this season allows clubs to make one change to their squad in the event of a long-term injury or illness.

That needs to be done before their sixth game of the competition, which in Arsenal’s case is against Club Brugge on Wednesday.

Jesus, who Arteta has said brings ‘chaos’ in attack, could be drafted in, and that could give the Gunners an edge in the competition.

Gabriel Jesus is very different in the Champions League

After a tremendous start to life at Arsenal, Jesus really struggled.

Injuries definitely played a big part, but his form when he was fit wasn’t always the best either, which was really frustrating.

However, in the Champions League, Jesus was very different.

In eight games in Europe’s most prestigious club competition in the 2023/24 season, only four of which came from the start, Jesus scored four goals and provided three assists.

Arteta should give the former Manchester City man a chance in the games against Club Brugge and Kairat. If he plays well, Arsenal could use him as a secret weapon in the remainder of the campaign.
