Arsenal are set to sign Viktor Gyokeres for £63 million from Sporting CP.
The Gunners have been in the market for a new striker for some time now, and have settled on the Swedish number nine after pulling out of a deal for Benjamin Sesko.
Gyokeres will fly to London this week to complete a medical and various other formalities before being announced as an Arsenal player.
Mikel Arteta’s squad has been crying out for a prolific goalscorer, and they may finally have landed him, with the former Coventry City man potentially the North Londoners’ version of Erling Haaland.

Liverpool make move for former Arsenal target Alexander Isak
Alexander Isak has long been touted as Arteta’s dream signing, although Newcastle’s reportedly hefty asking price for the 25-year-old has deterred the Gunners from making a move for him.
These excessive demands from the Magpies haven’t prevented Arsenal’s Premier League title rivals, Liverpool, from launching a concerted effort to sign him.
According to David Ornstein, via The Athletic, the Merseysiders have approached Newcastle about Isak, communicating their desire to purchase him this summer.
Liverpool are yet to make a formal offer for the Sweden international, who is valued in the region of £120 million.
Newcastle are aware of the Reds’ interest but have no intention of sanctioning their talisman’s departure in the next six weeks.
The Premier League Champions have already flexed their financial muscle this summer, signing Florian Wirtz in a record-breaking £116 million deal and look prepared to do so again with Isak.

Viktor Gyokeres could prove to be Arsenal’s Erling Haaland if Liverpool sign Alexander Isak
In the summer of 2022, Liverpool completed an £85 million deal for Darwin Nunez, while Manchester City signed Erling Haaland for £51 million.
Haaland proved to be the significantly better purchase, winning successive Golden Boots, while Nunez is now surplus to requirements at Anfield.
A similar situation may now be unfolding, with Arsenal signing a cheaper number nine, and Liverpool breaking their club-record transfer fee.
| Viktor Gyokeres’ Primeira Liga Statistics 2024/25 | |
| Appearances | 33 |
| Goals | 39 |
| Assists | 7 |
| Shots per 90 | 4.08 |
| Expected Goals per 90 | 0.99 |
| Key Passes per 90 | 1.96 |
| Expected Assists per 90 | 0.22 |
Isak has a better pedigree than Gyokeres, but the Gunners will be paying less than half the price for a player who has scored more goals over the last two years and has less of an injury track record.
While Liverpool may appear to be getting the better deal on the surface, Arsenal could well have the last laugh when they uncover their version of Haaland.
