Arsenal are set to face Nottingham Forest in their latest Premier League clash as the Gunners begin to look over their shoulders in the table.

Defeat for Arsenal could see them just three points ahead of Nuno Espirito Santo’s side and back in a fight to secure Champions League football next season.

Ethan Nwaneri has been spotted back in training to ease any concerns on his fitness however, Arsenal’s injury crisis this season has meant that they are now ebbing further further away from Liverpool.

Darren Bent has slammed Martin Odegaard for his performances this season and the upcoming clash with Forest could highlight a huge mistake from Mikel Arteta in terms of his transfer dealings yet again.

Arsenal regret not signing Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White

After selling Emile Smith-Rowe to Fulham in the summer, Arsenal were short on options in the attacking midfield role.

Arsenal admired Morgan Gibbs-White and were planning to test Forest’s resolve amid their financial fair play situation however, a bid did not materialise and instead Arteta chose to rely on Ethan Nwaneri to provide cover.

As per the Daily Star, Gibbs-White once called Bukayo Saka ‘one of the best players in the world’ and would have relished the opportunity to star alongside him.

Odegaard’s ankle injury at the start of the season kept him out for two months and Arteta did not play Nwaneri during these months in the attacking midfield position.

It would have been the perfect time for Gibbs-White to announce himself in an Arsenal shirt and get a consistent run of games to build his career at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal lost twice in the Premier league during that period.

Gibbs-White has outperformed Martin Odegaard this season

Arsenal’s skipper has been below-par this season with just two league goals to his name and fans were furious with Odegaard during the West Ham defeat for running away from a goal scoring opportunity.

Arteta must now be regretting now pressing ahead with securing the signature of Gibbs-White as the 25-year-old midfielder has outperformed Odegaard in a number of key attacking metrics.

Not only does the England international have more goals and assists but is more accurate with his shooting than the Gunners captain as well as creating more opportunities within a game.

Perhaps the most telling statistic is the long pass completion, many critics of Odegaard have suggested that he slows Arsenal down upon transitions and counter attacks and Gibbs-White could have been the answer to releasing the likes of Gabriel Martinelli quicker.

In a season full of regrets and disappointment so far, the missed opportunity of Gibbs-White can be added to Arteta and Arsenal’s growing list.
