After struggling to score goals in recent matches, it appears Arsenal are in the market to strengthen their attacking cohort in the January transfer window.
The Gunners failed to find the back of the net against Newcastle United on Tuesday night, and managed just a single goal in games against Brighton and Ipswich Town over the festive period.
Seven points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, Mikel Arteta’s side have scored eight goals fewer than their north-west counterparts in the Premier League.
Clearly in need of an addition up top, Arsenal have been told to sign Alexander Isak, with the Swede’s exceptional form prompting suggestions that he’s the perfect solution to the North Londoners’ issues.
However, with Newcastle likely to demand an excessive fee for their talisman, Arsenal should set their sights on an alternative.

Arsenal should sign Osimhen for £63m
Aside from Isak, Matheus Cunha has been linked with Arsenal, while a number of wide players have also been touted as potential options.
With Premier League clubs unlikely to sell to a domestic rival mid-way through the season for a fee that matches the player’s real value, the Gunners must find a more cost effective solution in the market.
According to The Liverpool Echo, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray, has a release clause worth just £63 million.
After failing to secure a move to a top European club in the summer, Napoli slashed the Nigerian’s release clause to £63 million before sending him to Turkey temporarily.
The prolific number nine has enjoyed an exceptional 2024/25 season thus far, scoring ten goals in just ten Super Lig starts.
This productive six months in Istanbul adds to his impressive goal-scoring record across his career, in which he’s found the back of the net 127 times.
Osimhen has been linked with Arsenal previously, and Arteta ought to consider re-visiting this interest, with the forward available for such a minimal fee for a player of his calibre.
There are likely to be multiple suitors waiting to secure his signature at £63 million, but Arsenal should be capable of luring Osimhen to the Emirates over other destinations.
The £63 million is said to be a break clause, meaning his loan spell at Galatasaray would be cut short if a club is willing to meet this fee.
Osimhen vs Isak statistical comparison
Newcastle are demanding £150 million for Isak, and thus Arsenal have to consider cheaper alternatives.
Available for almost £100 million less than his counterpart, Osimhen represents a realistic and exciting option.
The Nigeria international boasts a goal-scoring record as impressive as Isak’s, whilst his more physically domineering profile arguably aligns more closely with Arsenal’s robust and functional playing style, with football analyst Ben Mattinson describing him as a ‘monster’.
| Isak and Osimhen Statistical Comparison 2023/24 (League Only) | ||
| Stat | Isak | Osimhen |
| Appearances | 30 | 25 |
| Goals | 21 | 15 |
| Assists | 2 | 3 |
| Shots Per 90 | 2.87 | 3.86 |
| Expected Goals Per 90 | 0.81 | 0.7 |
| Key Passes Per 90 | 1.08 | 1.19 |
| Expected Assists Per 90 | 0.15 | 0.04 |
| Touches in Opposition Box Per 90 | 5.54 | 8.14 |
Arteta’s strikers have often been lamented for sacrificing their own goal-scoring exploits to try and facilitate play, often spending too little time in the box, and as demonstrated by the statistics above, Osimhen is the antithesis of this.
The former Lille man averages more touches in the opposition penalty box per 90 minutes than Isak, while he takes almost a shot more per game than the ex-Borussia Dortmund forward.
While Osimhen isn’t the dream signing that Isak appears to be to Arsenal fans, he offers significantly more value for money at the respective asking prices.
