Arsenal should be seriously worried after what happened in the 48th minute during Newcastle vs Liverpool

Arsenal’s title rivals, Liverpool, secured a huge three points against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Monday night.

Mikel Arteta’s team beat Leeds 5-0 on Saturday evening to put pressure on Arne Slot’s side heading to the north-east.

It looked as though this pressure had got to the Merseysiders, with Newcastle a matter of seconds from securing an unlikely draw against them.

However, 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha scored a stoppage-time winner to steal a victory for the Reds in dramatic fashion, meaning they go level on points with the Gunners heading into Sunday’s showdown between the two sides at Anfield.

Arsenal should be concerned about Anthony Gordon’s red card

While Arteta’s immediate concern will be on Sunday’s game at Anfield, he should be wary of what his side will have to face four weeks later at St. James’ Park.

The Gunners travel to Newcastle to take on Eddie Howe’s side on September 28th, with games against Nottingham Forest and Manchester City sandwiched between the Liverpool clash and the trip to the north-east.

The Magpies will have a key player returning to action for the clash with the Gunners.

In the third minute of first-half stoppage time at St. James’ Park on Monday night, Anthony Gordon received a straight red card for a reckless tackle on Virgil van Dijk.

The winger sprinted towards the Dutchman and lunged in with force.

Correctly dismissed, the England international will now miss Newcastle’s next three Premier League matches through suspension, meaning he’ll return for his first match back against Arsenal.

Having made a mistake and ultimately cost his team against Liverpool, Gordon will be fired up and raring to go against the Gunners, eager to put things right.

Thus, Arteta will have to be extra wary of the threat he can cause and prepare accordingly.

Arsenal may have Alexander Isak to deal with against Newcastle

Gordon may not be the only player making a return against Arsenal that Arteta will have to be wary of.

Assuming a late move doesn’t materialise, Alexander Isak could be reintegrated into Howe’s team and by the time the Gunners visit the north-east, he could be completely back in the fold and starting games.

Isak has troubled both Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba in the past, with his athleticism and intelligent movement making him difficult to deal with.

Arteta will have to arrive in Newcastle with a clear and coherent plan as to how to stop the Swede and Gordon from terrorising Arsenal’s back line.
