Arsenal’s perfect Ben White replacement could now be available after Barcelona’s surprise move

Arsenal are known to be looking for a new defender this summer and in particular, someone who can slot into both the centre and right-back positions.

Jurrien Timber is very much the first-choice right-back at the club but there are doubts when it comes to the future of Ben White.

White spent much of last season playing second or third fiddle and while he played a key role in the title run in, there is an expectation that Arsenal seek a replacement this summer.

Now, over in Barcelona, the ideal player to replace White and elevate Arsenal further might well be available.

Jules Kounde can be Arsenal’s perfect signing in defence

TeamTalk are reporting that Barca have taken the decision to sound out the market this summer when it comes to Kounde.

Kounde has been a regular for both the Spanish side and France and predominantly plays as a right-back for both teams.

For Arsenal, the idea of Kounde being on the market could present them with the perfect situation.

With White clearly being available this summer for the right money, a move for a player like Kounde represents an upgrade for the Gunners in terms of both quality and mentality.

Kounde has won three Spanish titles already, while he was also part of France’s Nations League winning squad in 2021 after being too young to be part of their 2018 World Cup winning squad.

At 27, Kounde is coming into what many would consider the prime years for any defender in the game.

His ability to play at right-back and comfortably slot in as a central defender also make him a standout candidate in terms of what Arsenal are looking for.

Indeed, another aspect that stands out for the Frenchman is his mentality. Last season, while going through a dip in form for Barcelona, he was backed by his manager, Hansi Flick.

“Jules is a fighter. He’s always focused. We’re all human, and sometimes you don’t have your best day, but he’s always fighting. Even when things don’t start well. I appreciate what he’s doing. He has a top-notch mentality. He’ll show that tomorrow. It will be a tough match for everyone. I like what I see from Atlético, with a clear philosophy,” Flick commented in February.

That sort of personality and ability to overcome tough times is crucial in any team looking to win titles.

Arsenal, then, need to be on red alert here should Kounde become available.
