Arsenal have had 10 draws this season, only Brighton and Everton have had more. Alongside injuries and suspensions, it means that the Champions League is now the only realistic hope of silverware.

Liverpool have simply been to strong in attacking areas for the Gunners to live with, Mohamed Salah has had a season of a lifetime.

However, there is bad news on the horizon for Arne Slot’s side as Trent Alexander-Arnold is on the verge of completing a move to Real Madrid.

Trent Alexander-Arnold move to Real Madrid spells bad news for Arsenal star

With Alexander-Arnold on the verge of a move to Spain, the transfer should be seen as good news for Arsenal as it significantly weakens a title rival ahead of the next campaign.

The move from Real Madrid for the England defender could also indicate that William Saliba is set to stay at Arsenal after the European champions were ready to bid for the French international.

However, as per the Mirror, Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli may not see the transfer as the best of news having always enjoyed coming up against Alexander-Arnold.

After the 3-1 victory over Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium last season, Martinelli stated: “We knew that was the area of the pitch that we could get something from. Me personally I always do well against Liverpool.”

The Brazilian forward has not enjoyed his best campaign having scored just six league goals in 24 appearances and now is seeing the back of an opponent he enjoyed much success against.

Mark Lawrenson claimed Martinelli injured Alexander-Arnold

Speaking on OTB am’s Sports Breakfast show, former Liverpool defender and pundit Mark Lawrenson claimed in 2022 that Martinelli once injured Alexander-Arnold from causing him so many problems.

Lawrenson stated on Alexander-Arnold: “He probably got injured because Martinelli was twisting and turning him in all sorts of different ways in the Arsenal game.”

Martinelli is subject to interest from Saudi Arabia but will be hoping that upon return from a hamstring injury that he can hit the ground running after the international break.

He has had the beating of world-class full backs such as Alexander-Arnold in the past and now he must get back to his exciting best in a crucial end of season run in for the Gunners.
