Arsenal produced a lacklustre performance on their return to action as Southampton put any hopes of a treble to bed with a top performance at St Mary’s.
A much-changed Arsenal side just wasn’t at the races and despite an equaliser from Viktor Gyokeres, it was the home side who went on to get the winner.
With the pressure on Arsenal following Man City’s win over Liverpool, the Gunners failed to deliver.
In doing so, there were some terrible performances from Arsenal’s XI but while many will point to Gabriel Jesus as being the weak link, it was England defender Ben White who was actually worse.
Who was the worst performer for Arsenal against Southampton?
Ben White was Arsenal’s worst player during the defeat to Southampton
There’s been a lot of talk about Ben White in recent weeks as he returned to the England set up and was picked by Thomas Tuchel for both games.
Still, after doing ok with the Three Lions, White served up a disaster in how to defend this evening at Southampton.
White was on the backfoot the entire night as Saints winger Leo Scienza ran him ragged. Scienza had White on the ropes since minute one and it was little surprise to see a lot of Southampton’s best attacking play come down Arsenal’s right side.

Time and again White looked like he didn’t fancy the battle and it showed over the entire evening, as the England man consistently gave the ball away as well.
With Arsenal missing a number of key players, it was a chance for White to show Mikel Arteta that he was the man for the job during the run-in.
Now, it seems like he has done the opposite and shown the manager that, actually, he might not have it in him to step in and be the main man.
Of course, White was not alone in his poor performance as a number of players suffered. But for a player who has previously prided himself on consistency at the top level, this was nowhere near the standard required.
Ultimately, White’s performance has hindered Arsenal and what looked like a potential quadruple for the club two weeks ago, the Gunners now have just two trophies to go for.
