Forget the win vs Palace, some bad news for Arsenal broke on Tuesday evening

Arsenal beat Crystal Palace on Tuesday evening in what was a perfect way to cap off the pre-Christmas festive period.

A win at home under the lights on penalties is a great way to send fans home happy for Christmas, and a cup semi-final awaits.

However, despite the jubilation of Tuesday’s win, we must remember that Arsenal’s main goal this season is to win the Premier League title.

Imagine you can sign Antoine Semenyo right now but ONLY if you sell one current Arsenal winger. Who are you shipping out?

As nice as a Carabao Cup win would be for Arsenal, most, if not all, would agree that it’s the competition that ranks lowest on Arsenal’s list of priorities this season.

While Arsenal were busy winning at the Emirates on Tuesday, something alarming was happening with one of their Premier League rivals.

Antoine Semenyo set to join Man City

News broke on Tuesday evening that Antoine Semenyo has chosen Manchester City as his transfer destination in the January transfer window.

Semenyo had been linked to Arsenal before he decided to join City, and this is a transfer that could change the course of the title race.

Man City are breathing down Arsenal’s necks right now, but the only criticism you could have of Pep Guardiola’s side right now is that they are over-reliant on Erling Haaland.

However, that reliance may now come to an end as City are now set to sign the third-highest goalscorer in the Premier League to add more firepower.

January signings can take a team to another level, and if City do step up a gear, that is more than concerning from an Arsenal perspective.

Arsenal top scorers compared to Manchester City

If Antoine Semenyo does end up joining Manchester City, then City will have so much more firepower than Arsenal.

A look at the two clubs’ potential top scorers shows you all you need to know.

Top Premier League goalscorersArsenalMan City
1.Viktor Gyokeres – 5Erling Haaland – 17
2.Bukayo Saka/Eberechi Eze/Leandro Trossard – 4Antoine Semenyo – 8
3.Mikel Merino – 3Phil Foden – 7

City simply have more goals in the team than Arsenal, and that could be telling come the end of the season.

However, as the old saying goes, attack wins you games, defence wins you titles, and Arsenal’s defence is much better than City’s.

Yes, City have the capability to win games 5-4 as they recently did against Fulham, but that isn’t as sustainable as Arsenal’s consistent clean sheets coupled with consistent scoring.

Semenyo could change the dynamics of the title race, but Arsenal are still favourites from this point.
