‘Great’ former Arsenal man will surely now regret decision to leave the Gunners after what has just happened

Arsenal have had a number of talented individuals leave the club in recent years.

The Gunners have lost players such as Alexis Sanchez, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Ozil, all of whom were exceptional servants to the North Londoners.

Meanwhile, manager Arsene Wenger left N5 in 2018 after a 22-year stint in the dugouts at both Highbury and the Emirates.

Many who leave Arsenal will no doubt ultimately come to regret their decision at some point in time, and there’s likely one man who departed very recently who is feeling very unhappy with that choice.

Edu Gaspar will surely be regretting Arsenal exit decision

Edu Gaspar left Arsenal last November to undertake a new role elsewhere.

The Brazilian opted to accept a lucrative offer to oversee Evangelos Marinakis’ network of clubs, which includes the likes of Nottingham Forest and Botafogo.

The charismatic technical director was appointed because of his success at Arsenal, leading the Gunners from mid-table mediocrity to perennial title challengers.

However, it’s safe to say his start to life working under Marinakis hasn’t gone smoothly.

After leading Forest to a seventh-place finish and European football, manager Nuno Espirito Santo has been sacked.

This has largely come as a result of a falling out between the Portuguese head coach and Edu, who disagreed over player recruitment and other matters in the East Midlands.

The former Arsenal player isn’t a popular figure amongst Forest fans for prompting this fallout, with the club now enduring a turbulent period, just months after their most successful season in decades.

Mikel Arteta described Edu as ‘great’ while he was the Gunners’ technical director, but it appears the football administrator has somewhat lost his way in his new role.

He’ll certainly be wishing he was enjoying the comforts of the Sohba Realty training ground, where he was a respected and well-liked figure.

Arsenal fans are delighted with Andrea Berta

While Edu may wish he was still at Arsenal, the Gunners faithful are delighted with the work of his successor.

Andrea Berta signed eight players this summer, spending in excess of £250 million to improve Arteta’s squad.

While it remains to be seen whether this transfer business will be successful, the Italian certainly showed himself to be a shrewd operator in the market.

His decisiveness is seen as a breath of fresh air from the often more pragmatic Edu, who struggled to fully win over fans throughout his spell in North London.

Meanwhile, Berta has fully endeared himself to the Arsenal fanbase, and this change in the Gunners hierarchy appears to have ultimately paid dividends for Arteta.
