Josh Kroenke was about to make a serious transfer blunder at Arsenal but Andrea Berta stopped him

Arsenal had an unprecedented summer transfer window thanks to Andrea Berta.

The Gunners signed eight new players after spending over £200 million. Stan and Josh Kroenke deserve a lot of praise for making those funds available, but it was Berta who got the deals over the line.

The junior Kroenke was heavily involved in transfers too, but one of his wishes did not come true – Benjamin Sesko.

Josh Kroenke personally pushed for Benjamin Sesko, but Andrea Berta signed Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal were heavily linked with both Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners were in desperate need of a new striker, and for a long time, it felt like it would be the Slovenia international.

Andrea Berta held talks with RB Leipzig to strike a deal for Sesko, but at the same time, he negotiated with Sporting CP for Gyokeres as well.

Were Arsenal right to sign Viktor Gyokeres instead of Benjamin Sesko?

In the end, the Arsenal sporting director went for the Sweden international, but The Independent claim today that Josh Kroenke was personally pushing for Sesko instead.

However, after weighing up the cost of both players, Berta ended up going for Gyokeres, and that has proved to be the right decision.

Sesko may have a higher ceiling, but Arsenal needed a striker for the present, not the future. That is why the Swede was the more sensible signing, and so far, it has worked out.

Gyokeres has done a fine job for Arsenal in almost every game he has played.

The Swede has worked tirelessly for the team, and his movement has made it easier for those around him to have an impact on the game.

Sesko, on the other hand, has had his moments, but it’s clear that he is not fully ready for the Premier League yet.

Gyokeres is clearly outperforming Sesko, having scored four more goals than him in all competitions so far this season.

What’s even more interesting is that the Slovenian has started six games in the Premier League for United so far. Ruben Amorim has preferred different options in five other fixtures.

If Sesko isn’t ready to start for Manchester United, there’s no way he’s ready to lead Arsenal’s line. That is further proof that Gyokeres is the better signing.

Berta definitely stopped Kroenke from making a transfer blunder.
