Liverpool could be about to make a signing that will make Thierry Henry very happy

While Arsenal’s incoming business for the summer could be complete, Liverpool are still in the market for a few further additions.

The Gunners have strengthened across the board, acquiring a striker, a winger, two midfielders, a defender and a goalkeeper.

Viktor Gyokeres arrived for £63 million as the marquee addition, while Martin Zubimendi was another major coup for Mikel Arteta.

Meanwhile, the Merseysiders have spent in excess of £250 million on the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, and they’re not prepared to stop there.

Thierry Henry will be happy if Liverpool sign Alexander Isak

After letting go of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, Arne Slot is somewhat short of forward options, despite adding Ekitike to his ranks.

Thus, Liverpool still want to sign Alexander Isak, who has expressed his desire to leave Newcastle this summer.

While there is still a significant gap in the valuation between the Reds and the Magpies, the more Isak pushes for a move, the more likely it is to materialise.

Isak moving to Liverpool would certainly be bad news for Arsenal, with the Swede’s arrival at Anfield elevating the level of Slot’s attack significantly.

However, Gunners legend Thierry Henry may actually be content with the prolific number nine moving to the north-west.

Henry is currently level with Mohamed Salah in the all-time Premier League Golden Boot charts, with both players having won the accolade four times.

Salah needs one more to usurp the Frenchman in this category, becoming the most prolific Golden Boot winner in the competition’s history.

If Isak arrives on Merseyside, the goals in Slot’s team are more likely to be spread out amongst multiple players, with Salah likely to get less service and score fewer goals.

This likely prohibits the Egyptian from claiming the Golden Boot, protecting Henry’s record for a while longer.

While Henry will no doubt want Arsenal to win the title, he’ll also be eager to retain his joint crown as the Golden Boot king.

Alexander Isak signing could cause Liverpool issues

Arsenal fans will understandably be anxious about the prospect of Liverpool landing Isak.

However, there is a case to be made that it would ultimately end up being a problematic addition for the Reds.

Ekitike has arrived for big money, and will expect to feature prominently next season.

The presence of Isak at Anfield would certainly block Ekitike’s minutes, potentially frustrating the French striker, causing unrest in the dressing room.

Additionally, all these significant outlays could leave Liverpool in PSR trouble moving forward, perhaps inhibiting them from spending big in the future.

They also risk having too many new signings in their ranks, which could make it more difficult for them to hit the ground running as the new players integrate and settle in.
