Martin Zubimendi had yet another impressive game for Arsenal when the Gunners beat Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Arsenal ran riot against Atletico to earn another three points in the league phase of the 2025/26 Champions League.

Goals from Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli and a Viktor Gyokeres brace settled the scoreline, but the scorers weren’t the only ones to impress on the night.

Zubimendi has settled in seamlessly at Arsenal and showed his worth once again on a big occasion early into the season.

Martin Zubimendi’s pass against Atletico Madrid was outrageous

The midfielder came up against a familiar opponent in Atletico Madrid and might’ve left Diego Simeone’s side feeling grateful that they don’t cross his path as often anymore.

Arsenal knew they signed a midfield metronome in Zubimendi, but perhaps weren’t aware of the playmaking qualities the Spaniard would also add.

During the win over Atletico Madrid, Zubimendi almost earned himself an assist, as in the 53rd minute, he played the ball over to Gyokeres.

With players surrounding him, the 26-year-old flicked the ball up and lofted a perfect pass into his striker, pulling off a Dennis Bergkamp-like move.

Zubimendi won the Premier League goal of the month award recently, so Arsenal know their summer signing can score goals, but he can also act as a playmaker.

Gyokeres almost put the ball in the net in a passage of play that would’ve handed Zubimendi a remarkable assist to add to his goal contribution tally.

Week after week, Mikel Arteta is being shown what a smart signing Zubimendi was in the summer, with the £51m capture proving his worth in gold by showcasing such exciting elements within his game.
