Mikel Arteta could be planning to change one Arsenal star’s position now, it would be controversial

Mikel Arteta will make a lot of interesting decisions at Arsenal over the course of the season.

The Arsenal manager is one of the best in the business, and the way he has led this Gunners side over the years has been truly remarkable.

Arteta mostly likes to keep the structure of the team balanced, which is why we rarely see him change the positions of his most important players.

However, we have a feeling Arteta is planning to implement one tactical tweak at Arsenal in the near future.

Mikel Arteta could be planning to change Bukayo Saka’s position at Arsenal

Bukayo Saka is one of the first names on Arsenal’s team sheet every week.

The Englishman has been one of the pillars of Mikel Arteta’s project at the Emirates, and he has carried the Gunners on his back over the years.

Saka hit two huge milestones during Arsenal’s win over West Ham – he completed 200 Premier League appearances for the club and also registered his 100th goal involvement.

Most of those goals and assists have come from the right wing, but Arteta used him on the opposite side late in the game against Olympiacos in the Champions League.

Saka scored from the left side of the box to seal the win for Arsenal, showing that he is more than capable of delivering from that flank as well.

We think Arteta could be thinking of using Saka on the left wing once Noni Madueke, who was superb on the right, returns from his injury.

It would definitely be a controversial decision.

As the old saying goes, ‘don’t fix what isn’t broken’, but we think Saka and Madueke playing either side of Viktor Gyokeres would offer a whole new dimension to Arsenal’s attack.

What Mikel Arteta said about playing Bukayo Saka as a left-winger

It was different to see Saka playing on the left against Olympiacos in the Champions League because we have all been used to watching him deliver on the opposite side.

We think the right flank is still the Arsenal number seven’s best position, but he has what it takes to contribute from the left as well.

While playing in an attacking role on the left, Saka has directly contributed to 45 goals in 77 games, which is an excellent return.

Arteta recognised that against Olympiacos, and his comments show he believes Saka can perform well on the opposite flank.

He said, as per Arsenal.com: “With Bukayo, we decided in the last few minutes to change sides for two different reasons and because he’s on a natural foot on that side, especially against teams that are constantly pushing their full-backs and the space is wide, he’s a real threat.”
