It is no secret that Mikel Arteta has been wanting a striker at Arsenal for a long time.

Despite the phenomenal efforts of Kai Havertz and Mikel Merino playing in the central striker position, neither of the duo is a natural number nine and that told as crucial chances were missed last season.

Arteta is under pressure to deliver a trophy next season and has instructed Andrea Berta to bring him the attacking firepower needed to get over the line in the Premier League title race.

Berta has been in negotiations for Viktor Gyokeres and a deal is edging closer, however, an unexpected twist in the saga could mean that Arteta finally lands his ‘dream’ striker target. But the Spaniard may have to wait…

Viktor Gyokeres loan option allows Arsenal to sign Alexander Isak next summer

Gyokeres could move to Arsenal on loan this summer with an option to buy the Swedish striker in place as a way of negotiating several financial hurdles surrounding the deal.

It would perhaps be the ideal scenario for the Gunners as they would be getting a world-class striker ready for a crucial campaign but also leaves options open for next summer.

Arteta’s dream signing is Alexander Isak and with Newcastle having qualified for the Champions League, the 25-year-old looks set to stay on Tyneside for another year.

However, there are reports that Isak wants to move on from St James’s Park and with his contract expiring in June 2028, Newcastle would have a decision to make next summer.

If Arsenal bide their time and play the situation intelligently, Gyokeres could help win a trophy this season, before paving the way for Isak to join the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal need to work on Alexander Isak deal early

Should the Gunners decide to put their eggs in the Isak basket, they would need to repeat their transfer feat from 2023 when they signed Declan Rice from Premier League rivals West Ham.

Edu Gaspar and Arteta were working on the signing of Rice for a long while before any fee was agreed with the Hammers.

Interest in Isak is huge and the top clubs around England and Europe are on alert over his contract situation at Newcastle.

The problem would arise if Gyokeres was to hit the ground running in North London and fire Arsenal to a major trophy, Arteta would then have to decide whether to stick or twist on his striker situation.
