Mikel Arteta may shake up his Arsenal squad in the upcoming January transfer window.

Arsenal are lacking cutting edge and quality strength in depth in the final third. 

This Arsenal squad flaw was laid bare on Saturday, as Mikel Arteta’s toothless side slumped to a 1-0 defeat against Newcastle United, registering just one shot on target in that match. 

Leandro Trossard was particularly disappointing, and has not been able to impress consistently at all this season. 

The Belgian has started regularly in recent weeks, covering for the injured Martin Odegaard. However, Trossard was one of Arsenal’s worst performers at St James’ Park. 

The £27 million former Brighton man has been waiting for an opportunity like this. Trossard and Arteta have fallen out in the past due to his lack of starts. 

However, Trossard has now shown that he cannot be relied upon to impress when called upon to start week in, week out.

Why Arsenal must consider selling Leandro Trossard

Arsenal need their big players to “step up,” according to former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

As one of the more experienced figures in Arteta’s squad, Trossard would fall into this category. However, he is currently falling short of expectations, and the Gunners can’t afford to carry any passengers.

The 29-year-old is unlikely to improve at this stage in his career, but still has value. Arsenal would be wise to bolster their attacking contingent in the upcoming summer transfer window, and cashing in on Trossard could provide the funds required to source a new goalscorer.

Arsenal fans want another striker to compete with Kai Havertz, and Trossard may have to make way to allow for such an arrival.

Who Mikel Arteta should replace Leandro Trossard with 

Arsenal would be wise to move for Antoine Semenyo. The in-form Bournemouth winger could provide some much needed competition for Bukayo Saka.

Viktor Gyokeres should also be a top target for the Gunners. The Swedish striker is one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe, and would be an ideal fit for Arteta’s squad. 

In any case, it is vital to bring in a least one attacker who can raise the level at the Emirates Stadium. Such a signing this winter could spur Arsenal on to a Premier League title triumph.
