Arsenal have been credited with a transfer interest in Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres on numerous occasions in the past.
Viktor Gyokeres is one of the most exciting forwards in European football and could well make a return to England in the future.
The Swedish star has previously plied his trade for the likes of Swansea City and Coventry City in the Championship, but is yet to test himself at Premier League level. Arsenal could give him the opportunity to do so.
Since joining Portuguese outfit Sporting CP in the summer of 2023, Gyokeres has elevated his game to a whole new level. In 64 appearances for the club since his arrival, across all competitions, the 26-year-old has scored 57 goals and registered 19 assists.
He has started this season in blistering form too, with 14 strikes and 4 assists in 14 outings so far. Last night, against Nacional, he added two more goals to his tally, including a spectacular free kick.
Arsenal have been linked with Gyokeres for some time, and Mikel Arteta will be aware of his quality. However, with Manchester United now set to replace the sacked Erik ten Hag with Sporting CP boss Ruben Anorim, as per The Guardian, there will be a concern that the Red Devils could beat the Gunners to his signature.

Arsenal supporters urge Mikel Arteta to sign Viktor Gyokeres
After seeing Gyokeres’ latest exploits, many Arsenal supporters on X have been demanding that the North London club make securing his signature a priority.
One said: “Gyokeres is a monster. His ball striking is ridiculous. That is definitely something we are missing in this Arsenal squad.”
Another stated: “Love Havertz. He’s a unique talent. But Arsenal need a prolific striker. Gyokeres is the only man for me. He’s lethal. We need to step up or interest in him and at least get an agreement in January that he signs for us in the summer.”
Other Arsenal fans are desperate to see their club beat Manchester United to a deal for Gyokeres.
One supporter pleaded for the Gunners to: “Get Gyokeres before that nobody coach brings him to that nothing club.”
Another claimed: “I will genuinely be fuming if Gyokeres goes to Man U!! Absolutely fuming I would be!! I never ever get the signings I would like to see the most at Arsenal but to go to Man U of all clubs will kill me and I feel it’ll happen.”
Should Arsenal compete with Manchester United for Gyokeres transfer?
If Manchester United do make an effort to sign Gyokeres, then Arsenal could easily be dragged into a costly bidding war. However, the striker is the kind of player worth fighting to sign.
What’s more, Arteta desperately needs to add a new striker to his ranks.
Gabriel Jesus has fallen short of the level required at the Emirates Stadium, and Kai Havertz alone cannot fire the club to a title. The addition of Gyokeres could take Arsenal to the very top.
