Mikel Arteta should be looking to move Myles Lewis-Skelly into midfield, given Arsenal’s current injury list in the middle of the pitch.
The Gunners are currently without Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz and Mikel Merino, who are all out injured; meanwhile, Ethan Nwaneri has been sent out on loan.
Agree or disagree: Myles Lewis-Skelly should get chances in midfield after Mikel Merino’s injury
Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi need to be rested at some stage, and that is going to be rather tricky given Arteta’s lack of stand-ins for the pair.
But one underrated option could be to move Lewis-Skelly into midfield, especially due to his lack of minutes at left-back, with Riccardo Calafiori back available.
Mikel Arteta must move Myles Lewis-Skelly into Arsenal’s midfield
Mikel Arteta must move Myles Lewis-Skelly into midfield to avoid running into the ground some of Arsenal’s current options.
Odegaard is out again for Arsenal after suffering a knock against Brentford, once again joining Havertz and Merino in the physio room.
Havertz suffered another injury setback, and Arsenal will once again be without him for a period; however, Merino is set to miss the remainder of the season.
That has left the North London club very light in midfield, so it is now time for the manager to start using one of Hale End’s brightest prospects.
Last season, at the Santiago Bernabeu against Madrid, Lewis-Skelly demonstrated he can handle the pressure of playing in big moments.
👀 Use ONE WORD to describe Myles Lewis-Skelly’s current game time at Arsenal…
But this season, Arteta does not seem to have the same level of trust, with the 19-year-old playing a rather limited role for Arsenal.
Lewis-Skelly nearly left Arsenal on loan in January, but the move was blocked, and so far, that is looking like a rather poor call.
The teenager should be getting more minutes, and Wigan at home in the FA Cup is the perfect chance for him to start.
Mikel Arteta should hand Marli Salmon his first Arsenal start
Another Hale End graduate Arteta should be looking to hand minutes to is Marli Salmon, who could start against Wigan.
The youngster has featured on several occasions this season, but has yet to make his first start for the club.
The FA Cup clash against the League One team could be a great chance to rest an Arsenal defender and give Salmon his first start.
