Myles Lewis-Skelly must start considering his Arsenal future after Ian Wright’s latest claim

Ian Wright has just issued a worrying message to Myles Lewis-Skelly, warning the Arsenal star that he is unlikely to start for England at present.

The Arsenal academy graduate’s minutes have been rather limited this season, and that is surely going to be an issue ahead of the World Cup.

Lewis-Skelly is only young and is a great squad option for the Gunners, but if he has ambitions of going to the 2026 World Cup, he needs to be playing much more.

Ian Wright has now been discussing the left-back and who he thinks will take his place at next summer’s competition in North America.

Ian Wright backs Tino Livramento to start over Myles Lewis-Skelly for England

Wright believes that Thomas Tuchel will start Tino Livramento ahead of Myles Lewis-Skelly for England at next summer’s World Cup.

Meanwhile, Gary Neville is backing Djed Spence from Spurs to take the left-back spot for the Three Lions at the tournament.

Tuchel has a plethora of options on the left side of his defence, with Nico O’Reilly, Luke Shaw and Dan Burn also on his list.

“Who starts at left back? Obviously, he’s got Livramento, he’s got Myles Lewis-Skelly, he’s got Nico O’Reilly, he’s got Djed Spence. I think he’s going for Djed Spence as he sits,” said Neville.

Meanwhile, Wright responded by adding: “I think Livramento. I think he’d go for Livramento. Even with Myles backing him up, I’m not just saying that, you can invert as well, but like, I think he’d go with Livramento.”

Lewis-Skelly was omitted from the England squad entirely for the latest international break, with Tuchel telling him he needs to be playing more minutes.

Myles Lewis-Skelly should start considering January loan exit at Arsenal

Ahead of the January transfer window, Lewis-Skelly must consider whether a six-month loan away from the Emirates Stadium could actually be good for him.

Right now, the defender is stuck behind Riccardo Calafiori in the pecking order, with the Italian being one of the best full-backs in Europe this season.

This has meant the teenager is yet to make a single start in the Premier League, and his chances of going to the World Cup are continuing to diminish.

Arsenal Insider understands that Arteta is reluctant to loan Lewis-Skelly out, which is understandable, especially given Calafiori’s injury record.

But at some stage, Lewis-Skelly will need to decide whether or not he’s going to play enough minutes to win back his place ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
