Myles Lewis-Skelly will be so upset after hearing Fabrizio Romano’s latest Arsenal transfer update

Myles Lewis-Skelly has had a difficult season at Arsenal.

The Gunners academy graduate had his breakthrough campaign in 2024/25, where he established himself as the club’s first-choice left-back.

Since the start of this season, however, Lewis-Skelly has dropped down Mikel Arteta’s pecking order and is struggling for game time.

Now, we think the youngster will be more upset after hearing Arsenal’s plans to sign a new player in his natural position.

Who will go on to have the better career: Nico O’Reilly or Myles Lewis-Skelly?

Andrea Berta’s Arsenal midfield transfer plan must upset Myles Lewis-Skelly

Myles Lewis-Skelly must come to terms with the fact that he is nowhere near the top of Arsenal’s pecking order at left-back.

The 19-year-old already had Riccardo Calafiori ahead of him, and now, Piero Hincapie, who Arsenal have decided to sign permanently, is in front of him too.

The ideal scenario for Lewis-Skelly would’ve been to move back to his natural position, which is central midfield, where Arsenal are short of numbers following Mikel Merino’s season-ending injury.

However, Arteta hasn’t used him there yet, and it doesn’t look like there are any plans to give him chances in that role in the near future either.

That’s because Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Andrea Berta has started working on signing a new midfielder for Arsenal this summer.

Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali is said to be a target for the North Londoners, and he reportedly wants to join the Gunners too.

If that were to materialise, Lewis-Skelly will likely be very upset as it would mean that his game time would reduce even further next season.

That is not ideal at all for a player who, despite his young age, was arguably the best left-back in the Premier League last season.

Keep, sell or loan – what should Arsenal do with Myles Lewis-Skelly this summer?

Myles Lewis-Skelly may have to follow in Ethan Nwaneri’s footsteps

Ethan Nwaneri had the same problems as Lewis-Skelly at Arsenal this season.

The midfielder barely played in the first half of the campaign, and it was decided that sending him out on loan in January was the best decision.

Lewis-Skelly may have to look for a loan move himself in the summer transfer window if his position in the Arsenal first-team squad does not change.

The teenager is too good to be sitting on the bench every week. Giving him the opportunity to play consistently elsewhere would be a fantastic experience for him.

If Arsenal were to make Lewis-Skelly available on loan, we think more than half the clubs in the Premier League will try to sign him.
