One Arsenal player tormented Crystal Palace in January – now he’s under pressure to do it again

Arsenal are preparing to take on Crystal Palace in the quarter-final of the EFL Cup.

After overcoming Bolton Wanderers and Preston North End, Arsenal will be tested by Premier League opposition next in the EFL Cup. 

The Gunners are two steps away from a trip to Wembley, emphasising the importance of sealing a win over Oliver Glasner’s side.

Ethan Nwaneri has starred in the EFL Cup this season for Arsenal and could be given another opportunity against Palace however, he’s not the only figure to look out for. 

Crystal Palace will be wary of Gabriel Jesus

Glasner is a fan of Raheem Sterling, who could also get a chance to shine against the Eagles but again, he’s not the only player Palace will be wary of.

Given that the Gunners haven’t faced Glasner’s side yet this season, you’d have to go back to January to recall the last time the clubs met.

On that day, it was Gabriel Jesus and others who humiliated Palace in a 5-0 win, giving the Brazilian something to aim for ahead of Wednesday night’s clash.

Some believe that Jesus is finished at Arsenal, but that won’t be the case if the forward can replicate the performance he put on against Palace 10 months ago. 

Back in January’s 5-0 win, the 27-year-old was a shining light for Arteta’s side, completing all four of his attempted dribbles, as well as completing all of his long balls.

Jesus only had 38 touches on the ball that afternoon but he sure made them count, recording four key passes and creating two big chances for his teammates – one of which resulted in an assist.

The striker’s quality is undeniable but what is questionable is his form, being a player low on confidence and inspiration and quite frankly, a shadow of the player he was.

Make or break for Jesus at Arsenal 

Jesus has a point to prove against Palace as he continues to struggle at Arsenal.

The Brazil international’s lack of form is made clear by his numbers over the year, scoring two competitive goals in 2024. 

It’s far from acceptable from a striker, causing rumours about Jesus leaving Arsenal to multiply, all of which were shot down by Arteta. 

Against Palace, the forward could be handed another opportunity to show his worth to the current project, having not done so for some time now in N5.
