Arsenal dug deep to secure a late win over Brentford to move top of the Premier League last night, and there were several impressive performers.

Declan Rice was outstanding again, and found himself on the scoresheet after an excellent header to give Arsenal the lead.

Aaron Ramsdale made a horrific error on his return to the starting lineup to draw Brentford level, but his blushes were spared as Kai Havertz headed in a late winner to send the Emirates crowd wild.

Whilst both goalscorers impressed, with Jorginho also playing well, defender Ben White put in a game-winning performance, and was paramount to Arsenal’s win.

Ben White was vital for Arsenal in win over Brentford

White was phenomenal throughout the game, and crucial to the win at both ends of the pitch.

He put in an inch-perfect cross for Rice’s header, and later did the same for Havertz, leaving the pitch with two assists to his name.

In addition to this, White was composed on the ball, completing 89% of his passes, and helping Arsenal advance up the pitch from his inverted right-back role.

The 26-year-old made an astonishing 10 passes into the final third, more than any other Arsenal player, and was a driving force behind Arsenal’s creativity. He was hardly beaten by the Brentford attackers, and supported William Saliba well when building play out of pressure.

White has been one of Arsenal’s best players in this recent eight-game winning run, after suffering a dip in form prior to the Winter break.

He has now been described as “revitalised,” with his performance levels at their very best, whilst he is also taking a bigger leadership role within the back four.

White has recently tweaked his role to invert, which has helped Jakub Kiwior on the left side, whilst White has continued to excel, with it clear that his ability to learn quickly is of great benefit to Mikel Arteta.

With Takehiro Tomiyasu still absent, White has had to start in every single Premier League game, and given his strong form, he will not be dropped for the Japan star when he does eventually return.

The Englishman is perhaps an underrated member of the Arsenal squad, and his upcoming new contract is a thoroughly deserved one given his consistency and reliability.
