Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be about to do one final big favour for Arsenal by helping to nurture Ethan Nwaneri on loan at Marseille.

Marseille are close to signing Nwaneri on loan in what would be a shock move to see him leave the Premier League.

Nwaneri has been attracting interest from the Premier League, but he now looks set to head to France for the rest of the season.

Marseille could be a great loan move for the 18-year-old, given they are flying in Ligue 1 this season under Roberto De Zerbi.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be about to do a big favour for Arsenal by helping to nurture Ethan Nwaneri during his loan spell at Marseille.

Aubameyang would have undoubtedly been one of the players whom the teenager looked up to during his time in the Arsenal academy.

Now, Nwaneri will get the chance to play alongside the former Gunners striker in France, which could be rather exciting to watch.

The 36-year-old has been rolling back the years at Marseille this season, having produced eight goals and ten assists in 23 matches.

Aubameyang netted a brace against Newcastle in the Champions League earlier this season, showing that he’s still got it at the top level.

But for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta, it will be great to have someone at Marseille who can really guide the youngster during his spell at the Orange Velodrome.

Right now, Marseille are pushing for a top-three finish in Ligue 1 and find themselves eight points behind league leaders Lens.

Ethan Nwaneri could face strong competition from Mason Greenwood

One issue which Nwaneri could encounter is strong competition from Mason Greenwood for a spot on the right wing.

Marseille do not play with a number ten, meaning that the teenager is likely being signed to play on the right for them.

Greenwood has been one of Marseille’s top performers this season, scoring 20 goals in 26 matches for De Zerbi’s team.

Right now, the former Manchester United winger’s spot is secure, so it will be interesting to see De Zerbi’s plan for Nwaneri.

The Italian is believed to have held positive talks with Mikel Arteta about the move, which means there would have been some sort of guarantees.
