The midfield market hasn’t just inflated everyone’s prices, but it has also created a bit of a domino effect.
If a club sells one of their star midfielders, they will need a replacement, and most of the best options play in the Premier League.
Arsenal are absolutely right to be interested in Bruno Guimaraes, and you can’t really blame them for sticking to their valuation of the player and not going overboard.
However, not all clubs share the same stance – definitely not Manchester City or Chelsea.
We just saw the Blues ridiculously overpay to sign Morgan Rogers for £117 million, while Manchester City splashed a similar amount on Elliott Anderson as well.
Now, Matteo Moretto and several other journalists have claimed that Real Madrid have opened the doors to sign Rodri, and the Ballon d’Or winner is keen on the move too.
If the Galacticos end up signing the Spaniard, Manchester City will dive back into the market for a replacement, even though they have already added Anderson.
One player the Sky Blues have historically had an interest in is Guimaraes, and the fact that he could be available makes him a very obvious target.

That is a problem for Arsenal.
If the Gunners keep refusing to meet Newcastle’s demands for their skipper, there’s every chance Manchester City will come in, pay what the Toon wants and take the player.
That is exactly what City did to Arsenal in the Jeremy Monga deal, which is very worrying.
It now remains to be seen what Berta will do, but at some point, he will have to accept that Arsenal will have to pay more than they like in this inflated market.
If he doesn’t, Arsenal will have to settle for their third or fourth choice targets.
