Roy Keane thought Gabriel Jesus looked ‘miles off it’ against Manchester United, and now Mikel Arteta must drop him against Leeds United.
Arsenal bounced back from their defeat to Man United with an eighth win of the season against Kairat; however, the real response needs to come against Leeds.
Fill in the blank: Mikel Arteta must start ______________ up front vs Leeds…
The Gunners face one of the most important Premier League games of the season at Elland Road, where they must show great resilience to bounce back.
But one player Arteta must leave on the bench this Saturday is Jesus, who struggled against the Red Devils last weekend.
Roy Keane slams Gabriel Jesus vs Man United
Roy Keane has admitted that he was less than impressed by Gabriel Jesus’ performance against Manchester United.
The Brazilian striker really struggled at the Emirates Stadium against the Red Devils, managing just 26 touches in 58 minutes.
Speaking about the game, Keane told The Overlap: “What about Jesus this weekend? Say whatever about his movement, his touch was so off.”
What is your score prediction: Leeds United _-_ Arsenal
Jesus was among the players hauled off before the hour mark by Mikel Arteta as Gyokeres replaced him.
Right now, Arteta has been unable to find a number nine who can show some consistency, with Gyokeres and Jesus both struggling.
Gyokeres has just three goals in his last 11 matches for the Gunners; meanwhile, Jesus has two in his last eight.
Mikel Merino should start for Arsenal against Leeds
Arteta must freshen his attack up at Leeds, and that should involve Mikel Merino starting in the number nine role.
Eze should also be brought in against Leeds, and these two seem to complement one another well when they are both starting.
The Spaniard often drops deeper than Jesus and Gyokeres, allowing Eze space to run into, something which he does really well.
Gyokeres could be the other option to start, having netted a hat-trick in his last appearance against Daniel Farke’s team.
The 27-year-old often prefers playing against the teams that sit deep and allow his teammates more space, just like he did at Bournemouth. But for Jesus, this is a game he needs to be left on the bench.
