The winter transfer window is officially closed, and Arsenal have not signed a single player.
Mikel Arteta publicly claimed that he wanted a new striker in the window that was open for 34 days. But, Arsenal’s board did not deliver.
This is not the first time either – Arteta has wanted the likes of Dusan Vlahovic and Alexander Isak before they went to Juventus and Newcastle United respectively, but the Arsenal manager got neither.
David Ornstein has revealed that Arsenal could’ve signed Ollie Watkins if they had paid £20 million more, but they decided against doing that on deadline day.
Arsenal will now have to navigate the remainder of the season without a natural striker, and that is going to increase the burden on one player.
Arsenal’s owners should apologise to Kai Havertz
Arsenal’s decision to not sign a new striker is bad news for Kai Havertz – there are no two ways about it.
The Germany international isn’t even a striker, but he has been doing a job there for Arsenal for over a year now and he has mostly been brilliant.
However, in some of the recent games, the number 29 has looked absolutely knackered. Following the win over Wolves, Havertz fell to the ground and had to be helped up by two physios.
That showed the world that Arsenal needed help, but the board did not deliver.
Havertz will have to play almost every single game for Arsenal from now until the end of the campaign, and that is not ideal at all.
Fatigue is one issue, but playing so much football will increase the risk of injuries as well – just look at what happened to Rodri at Manchester City and Radu Dragusin at Tottenham.
Havertz deserves an apology from club owners Stan and Josh Kroenke and the rest of the Arsenal board for putting him in this position now.

How many more games Havertz could end up playing this season
Havertz has played 33 games in all competitions so far this season.
The German has been on the pitch for 2686 minutes – only David Raya, William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes have been given more game time than him.
It is very difficult for those three as well, we’re not denying that, but the amount of work Havertz puts in up front with and without the ball is significantly higher than the defenders.
| Player | Minutes played |
| David Raya | 3090 |
| William Saliba | 2805 |
| Gabriel Magalhaes | 2764 |
| Kai Havertz | 2686 |
| Thomas Partey | 2581 |
| Jurrien Timber | 2506 |
| Declan Rice | 2446 |
Arsenal still have 14 games to play in the Premier League this season, while they could play two more in the Carabao Cup if they make it into the final.
In the Champions League, the Gunners will end up playing seven more games if they go all the way.
That means Havertz could have to play 23 more games, which would take his tally up to 56 appearances for the season. The most club games he has ever played in his senior career is 51 – that came last season.
