The Insider's View: Clever moves by Edu could help Arsenal sign 'fantastic player' in swap deal

It’s been a busy week for Arsenal with Edu reportedly making big moves for multiple players.

The Gunners have reportedly tabled bids for Ben White and Albert Sambi Lokonga, while an offer is said to be imminent for Leicester City star James Maddison as well. It’s all kicking off at the Emirates, but this is just the start.

Arsenal are on the market looking to strengthen as many as six different positions. A goalkeeper, a centre-half, a full-back, two central midfielders and a number 10 are all on Mikel Arteta’s wish list, and Stan Kroenke has reportedly handed the Gunners boss £250 million to spend. (90min)

My Revenge On Ben Foster

That amount of money should help us compete with the best teams in the country, but Edu has to be wise. We can’t just splash millions on players just because we can. We should be clever and there could be a way now for us to sign a world-class player for next to nothing.

Arsenal could sign Julian Brandt in a sensational swap deal

German newspaper BILD revealed back in April that Arsenal are still keen on Borussia Dortmund star Julian Brandt. It was claimed that the versatile 25-year-old will be sold this summer – for just £17.3 million.

Kicker backed that claim last month and it really does look like he is an option Arsenal are considering. Arteta probably has the likes of Maddison and Martin Odegaard much higher on his wish list, but Brandt shouldn’t be ignored.

The German can play on both wings, as a false nine, as an attacking midfielder and in central midfield. He’s still only 25 as well and as we’ve all seen over the years, he’s truly a world-class talent – even though he has had a shocking 12 months.

£17.3 million is a very affordable fee for Arsenal, but clever moves by Edu could bring that fee down to almost nothing.

Fussball Transfers revealed earlier this week that Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi. The report claimed that BVB have already started talks with the Frenchman’s agents about a summer move, which shows just how keen they are.

Arsenal are desperate to get rid of Guendouzi and he will be sold to the highest bidder. La Provence recently claimed that the Gunners could even sell the talented Frenchman for as little as £13 million.

With Arsenal reportedly interested in Brandt and Dortmund keen on Guendouzi, a sensational swap deal could well be on the cards. If Edu can really work his magic, a straight swap could also be an option, and that would really be a great deal for the Gunners.

Labelled as a ‘fantastic player‘ by BVB director Michael Zorc, Brandt could be of real use to Arsenal next season. Now that there is an opportunity to sign him for very little or no money, Edu should seriously consider bringing him in this summer.
