Arsenal are still confident of securing the signing of Viktor Gyokeres despite frustrations over negotiations with Sporting Lisbon.
Arsenal are not happy with Sporting Lisbon over their continuous efforts to change aspects of the deal when a breakthrough is on the verge of happening.
Gyokeres himself is desperate to move to North London and has gone through some drastic measures to ensure it happens. The Swede has refused to return to Sporting and is even waiving some of his salary to force through the transfer.
Arsenal fans are worried over Liverpool’s interest in Alexander Isak and the Gunners continue to admire the Newcastle striker themselves. However, if they can pull off the Gyokeres deal, they may have just upgraded on his fellow countryman.

Viktor Gyokeres has a better injury record than Alexander Isak
Isak is Mikel Arteta’s dream signing but with Newcastle’s reluctance to sell at a price lower than £130m, the Gunners have turned to his Swedish teammate Gyokeres to solve their strike woes.
Arsenal were decimated by injuries last season and in particular to their forwards with Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka both suffering hamstring tears.
Gyokeres is a player who has an impeccable injury record with the striker only having missed three games for his club side last season.
| Arsenal striker target | Number of matches missed through injury last season |
| Gyokeres | 3 |
| Isak | 9 |
Isak on the other hand has struggled with injury since his arrival in England and missed nine matches for Newcastle last season.
In the 2023-24 campaign, Isak missed a total of 12 games for club and country and a mammoth 18 in the 2022-23 season.
Durability is something the recruitment team are strongly considering this summer and may be one of the reasons behind targeting Gyokeres.
Comparing Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak’s international records
Isak has double the amount of international caps for Sweden than his compatriot but the scoring records are very interesting in comparison.
Gyokeres has almost scored the same amount of goals as Isak despite only having featured on 26 occasions for his country.
| International records for Sweden | Appearances | Goals |
| Isak | 52 | 16 |
| Gyokeres | 26 | 15 |
The Newcastle striker was full of praise for his international teammate speaking to the Sweden Herald back in 2024.
Isak stated: “Viktor is physically stronger and faster, but still good with the ball for that type of player. He’s good at driving the ball, has a nose for goals, is a very good finisher and at positioning himself.”
Arsenal fans will now be impatiently waiting for confirmation of Gyokeres arriving at the Emirates and will be excited to see the impact he can have on Arteta’s side.
