Despite missing out on international duty, Myles Lewis-Skelly cannot escape the spotlight right now.
Arsenal have a challenge with Lewis-Skelly that they’ve never had, as after an incredible breakthrough season, the 19-year-old is missing out due to a lack of game time.
The teenager is not on duty like others in the Arsenal squad during the November international break after failing to be called up by Thomas Tuchel.
Ever since Lewis-Skelly missed out on an England call-up, pressure from the media has been mounting, giving Mikel Arteta so much to consider when deciding when the academy graduate plays and when he doesn’t.

Myles Lewis-Skelly’s agent is the perfect role model amid media pressure
The way that the defender, who is still only 19, is being targeted in the media is perplexing and difficult for Arsenal to drown out.
Talk will only increase as the World Cup draws closer, but the club won’t necessarily be worrying about Lewis-Skelly’s wellbeing amid being placed under the spotlight.
That’s because when it comes to player agents, Lewis-Skelly has one of the best, a figure who knows and cares about his development more than anyone else, his mother.
Not only is Marcia Lewis the Arsenal star’s parent, but she’s a figure progressing while learning the ropes in the industry, combining the financial and media pressures of professional football at the highest level with player care and guidance.
In a June 2025 interview with The Guardian, Lewis relayed one message about the state of play with being a player representative and juggling media exposure, a message that will be put into practice right now.
“Rumours are rumours, aren’t they? I mean, everyone would always have something to say, you know; that’s fine. We don’t engage in all of that,” Lewis assured.
“Myles is enjoying his football. I would want him to enjoy his football wherever he goes, at whatever stage. And, you know, that’s the most important thing.”
Having been alongside Lewis-Skelly throughout his entire career, the lapse in game time at present is merely another hurdle, the only difference being that this time, it’s for the world to see.
Is Lewis-Skelly’s Arsenal situation being blown out of proportion?
During her interview with the Guardian, Lewis recited a quote she learned from her mother, one she implements in her work now, with Myles.
“My mum always used to say to me: ‘If something feels urgent, that is a sign to slow down.’”
The building media pressure on Lewis-Skelly right now is a perfect instance of when to implement that poignant take, as when taking a step back, the 19-year-old’s situation is far from critical.
Perspective is everything when it comes to game time, as yes, the World Cup is beckoning, but there are thousands of minutes still to be played, minutes that Lewis-Skelly will earn.
| Competition | Appearances | Starts | Minutes | Unused sub |
| Premier League | 7 | 0 | 86 | 4 |
| Champions League | 3 | 2 | 197 | 1 |
| Carabao Cup | 2 | 2 | 180 | 0 |
| Total | 12 | 4 | 463 | 5 |
If the 19-year-old was told at the start of last season that this year, he’d have made 12 appearances from a possible 17 this term, he’d be in dreamland.
Were the World Cup not in sight, Lewis-Skelly would be told that he is right where he needs to be, but external pressures are pushing the narrative into a more ominous light.
With a knowledgeable agent and a supportive club, the Hale End product merely needs to keep doing what he’s doing.
