Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is set to leave the club at the expiration of his contract, bringing an end to his five-year stay.
The Gunners have pushed hard in the past month or so to try and tie the Ghanaian international down to a new deal, with Andrea Berta leading discussions over an extension.
However, Partey now looks set to leave Arsenal, as an agreement can’t be reached on the structure of the deal.
It means there are some big changes around the corner at the Emirates Stadium, as Christian Norgaard is set to sign for the Gunners.
Beyond that, the upcoming release of Thomas Partey could spell good news for Arsenal, due to one repeating factor.

Thomas Partey’s exit spells good news for Arsenal’s injury concerns
Thomas Partey’s time in North London is coming to an end, as Arsenal will wave goodbye to the midfielder in July.
After five years at the Emirates Stadium, there is a mixed consensus on how the Ghanaian international really did.
Some of that is down to his injury concerns and the lack of consistent game time he managed to get as a result.
While Partey managed to stay relatively fit for most of 2024/25, there is no guarantee that he will be able to recreate that run of games again in 2025/26.
Injuries were a problem for Arsenal last season, with many of the first team facing lengthy spells on the sidelines.
At 32, nearing the end of his peak, Partey may struggle to replicate his performances and fitness levels, and given how important that will be moving forward, it could be important that his exit is coming up.
Instead, Arsenal can now look ahead to the future and other options to bolster their midfield ranks.

Thomas Partey’s injury record at Arsenal
Since joining Arsenal in 2020, Partey has been on the sidelines with 11 different injuries, resulting in plenty of matches missed.
| Season | Injuries | Games missed |
|---|---|---|
| 2020/21 | 3 | 21 |
| 2021/22 | 3 | 19 |
| 2022/23 | 2 | 6 |
| 2023/24 | 2 | 34 |
| 2024/25 | 1 | 1 |
With that many injuries and that amount of games missed, it’s clear that Arsenal haven’t always been able to rely on the midfielder.
For that reason, it may be time for the Gunners to move on, looking to the future with players who are less likely to be injury-prone.
