Arsenal haven’t had a great summer transfer window so far.
The Gunners, as expected, turned Piero Hincapie’s loan into a permanent deal, and they have since signed Illan Meslier on a free transfer and Christos Tzolis in a £34 million deal.
Arsenal still desperately need a top-class winger. Morgan Rogers was viewed as that player, but the North Londoners delayed making a bid, and Chelsea then paid over the top to get the deal done.
The Premier League champions are still being linked to several elite wingers, but no move seems to be progressing just yet.
That has brought back memories of what happened in 2024, when Edu Gaspar was calling the shots.
Who was Edu Gaspar’s worst signing at Arsenal? Willian, Raheem Sterling or someone else?
Arsenal could see a repeat of the 2024 summer transfer window
Arsenal have needed a world-class left-winger for several years now.
Back in the summer of 2024, Edu took on the responsibility of finding such a player, and the Gunners were linked with moves for plenty of exciting names.
Nico Williams was the top target back then, while the likes of Rafael Leao, Rodrygo, Raphinha, Desire Doue, Michael Olise and Anthony Gordon were all linked as well.
Even in the final days of the window, when Arsenal failed to sign any of the above names, Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman was floated as an option.
In the end, however, Edu brought in Raheem Sterling on loan, and that proved to be a disastrous signing for the North Londoners.

Fast forward to 2026, and we see a similar pattern.
Arsenal have been linked with several big names to strengthen their left wing, but no move is even close to happening at this stage.
With pre-season already underway and the new Premier League season less than a month away, panic is setting in among Arsenal fans.
We’re sure Andrea Berta is working tirelessly to bring in a new left-winger, but if nothing progresses on that front, he may do what Edu did and sign a stop-gap option.
Another Sterling-like signing to paper over the cracks at the end of the window would be inexcusable while Arsenal aim to defend the Premier League title.
Imagine you are Andrea Berta. Who is your top target for Arsenal in the summer transfer window?
Berta raised the excitement levels at Arsenal with his signings last summer. Now, it’s time for him to prove his worth again.
We hope he can do a lot better than Edu did two years ago.
