Why Noni Madueke will not start again for Arsenal this season as Bukayo Saka returns vs Newcastle

If you’re Noni Madueke, the sight of seeing Bukayo Saka return will have been bittersweet.

On one hand, football is a team game and getting Saka – arguably Arsenal’s best player – back playing is massive for the club.

On the flipside, Saka’s absence has meant more playing time for Madueke and at times, he has delivered and produced good moments down the right.

However, if it wasn’t glaringly obvious before, we are talking about different levels of player here and when Bukayo Saka came on against Newcastle, it was clear as day who the better player is.

Bukayo Saka’s return means no more starts for Noni Madueke

For Mikel Arteta, there is no time for sentiment now. It’s all about picking your best XI in every single game and trusting those big players to deliver.

Noni Madueke was essentially anonymous against Newcastle before he was taken off with around 10 minutes to go for Saka.

The stats will point to Madueke completing three of his five dribble attempts and also winning the corner which Arsenal eventually scored from.

However, when Saka came onto the pitch, there was a clear increase in level from the Gunners. Yes, the crowd helped and welcomed him back, creating a better atmosphere.

But Saka was immediately on the front foot, with his first action in the game being to dribble past two defenders and cut inside to get a shot off.

Furthermore, Saka would have potentially scored the crucial second goal as well had it not been for a shocking pass on the counter from Viktor Gyokeres.

Who was your Man of the Match from Arsenal vs Newcastle

This 15 minute cameo from Saka was enough to show what Arsenal have been missing while he’s been out.

Indeed, while Madueke has held the fort down to an extent and been a good squad player, he is no Bukayo Saka.

Between now and the end of the season, if fitness allows, then Saka starts and finishes every game.

It really is that simple for Mikel Arteta. Play your best players. And Saka is one of them.
