Arsenal may have to replace Thomas Partey this summer.
Martin Zubimendi was in England to complete his move to Arsenal recently, and he will start most games in the number six role next season.
Partey was expected to take Jorginho’s place in the squad, but an agreement with the Ghana international over a new contract has not been reached yet.
There is a big chance that Partey could leave Arsenal on a free transfer this summer. If that happens, a new midfielder has to be brought in, and one excellent talent has been linked – Lucien Agoume.
William Saliba’s agent could help Arsenal sign Lucien Agoume
Agoume is a terrific young midfielder.
The 23-year-old was fantastic for Sevilla in La Liga last season, but the Spanish side may need to sell him to balance their books.
Reports have claimed that Agoume will be available for just £17 million for Arsenal, which would be a bargain for any club.
The Gunners like the Sevilla midfielder and are monitoring his situation. To get a move over the line, William Saliba’s agent, Djibril Niang, could play a key part.
That’s because Niang also represents Agoume and took care of his transfer from Inter Milan to Sevilla last year.
Andrea Berta is already in talks with Saliba’s agent over a new contract. The Italian could bring up Agoume’s name during discussions as well to open the door for a transfer.
If Arsenal get Niang and the player onboard, a move should be straightforward, considering that his price tag could be as low as £17 million.
Agoume would be a great replacement for Thomas Partey
Thomas Partey leaving would be a shame after his injury-free 2024/25 season, but it will not be the end of the world for Arsenal.
Zubimendi will take care of business as a starter, and the Gunners will only need a backup — someone who can do a job when required and also develop to become a star in the future.
Agoume, who Quique Sanchez Flores thinks is a player with ‘an extraordinary physique and a magnificent physical condition’ (Sempre Inter), would be perfect for Arsenal.
The 23-year-old has all the attributes to succeed at the top level, and the fact that he will be available for just £17 million makes this deal a no-brainer.
We think Berta should speak to Saliba’s agent — not just about a new contract for the defender but also to begin work on a move for Agoume.
