Arsenal legend Ian Wright has sent a stern message to Mikel Arteta about re-signing Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid this summer.

The Spaniard, labelled as a ‘very clever player‘ by Robin van Persie, is 10 days away from completing two full seasons on loan at the Emirates. His first campaign was a really successful one, but things haven’t quite been as good this time around.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

Ceballos came under serious criticism after his disastrous performance against Villarreal in the Europa League a couple of weeks ago. Most supporters wanted him gone, and it looks Wright agrees with them.

Ian Wright: Mikel Arteta should not sign Dani Ceballos again

The legendary Gunners striker believes that if Ceballos was good enough to play for Arsenal, we would’ve seen it by now, but sadly, we haven’t and that is why Arteta shouldn’t consider signing him this summer.

He said on Matchday Live on Optus Sport: “I don’t think we should be signing Ceballos. I just don’t think he’s what we need now.

“I think that we’ve got young players coming through who should get an opportunity in front of Ceballos. If he’s going to do anything to stay at Arsenal (beyond the end of this season) it would’ve been seen already by now.”

The Insider’s View:

Arsenal will be terribly short of options in central midfield this summer. Only Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny are guaranteed to stay at the club as every other midfielder has been linked with a move away from the Emirates.

If all the links do materialise, Arsenal will have to bring in more than just one new midfielder. That could force Arteta to consider another deal for Ceballos, which isn’t ideal considering how poor he has recently been.

Arsenal should just keep hold of Joe Willock and bring in a defensive midfielder. That would eliminate the need for Ceballos, and Wrighty and many other Gooners’ wish will come true.
