Football journalist Pete O’Rourke spoke to The Football Terrace today about Brighton and Hove Albion star Ben White potentially joining Arsenal in the coming days.
The Englishman has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates for over a month now. Reports have revealed that the Seagulls have rejected two offers from Arsenal, but there is growing optimism that a deal will be completed in the very near future.
O’Rourke was asked about the negotiations between the two clubs and he claims that the deal is pretty much done. He also revealed what White has been saying to his England teammates about his future, and this will surely excite Arsenal supporters.
Ben White has told England teammates that he’ll join Arsenal
O’Rourke said: “I fully expect this deal to go through for Ben White to make a move to Arsenal. Obviously, he’s away at the Euros with England right now, that’s holding up any potential deal being done. As soon as the Euros are finished, Ben White will be looking to tie this deal up quickly.
“We all know he is Arsenal’s top target this summer. They want to get this deal done. The two clubs are still in negotiations, still talking, and I would expect the deal to get done at just over £50 million plus add-ons.
“Ben White really wants this move even though there was a bit of late interest from Everton. The defender has his heart set on a move to the Emirates. I know from speaking to a few people, he’s been telling some of his England teammates that the deal is pretty much done and he expects to be an Arsenal player at the start of next season.”
The Insider’s View:
If O’Rourke’s sources are right, this is amazing news for Arsenal.
Yes, some Gooners are upset that the Englishman will be taking William Saliba’s spot at the Emirates, but nobody can deny that he is a top-quality defender who has the potential to become one of the best in the country in a few years.
White is perfect for Arteta’s system. He is a solid defender, he’s fairly quick and he’s very comfortable with the ball at his feet. He has the ability to ping long diagonals effortlessly, just like David Luiz. That makes him a really good fit for Arsenal.
This transfer window is a hugely important one for the Gunners. We need to bring in excellent players to get back to where we belong, and signing White soon would be a fantastic way to start the rebuild.
