Arsenal are still in the market for a left-sided attacker, although their hopes of landing Real Madrid’s Rodrygo appear to be fading.
The Gunners have been busy this summer, adding six players to bolster Mikel Arteta’s ranks.
Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi will immediately improve the Spaniard’s starting eleven, while the other four additions will strengthen the North Londoners’ squad depth.
However, there is still a feeling that injecting some additional firepower on the left wing would elevate the ceiling of Arsenal’s attack.
Eberechi Eze now appears to be Andrea Berta’s top target in this regard, with Rodrygo seemingly dropping down the Italian’s shortlist in recent weeks.

Tottenham ‘the only club’ that can now sign Arsenal target Rodrygo
Arsenal supposedly made Rodrygo their primary target on the left wing earlier this summer.
However, after securing Noni Madueke, their preference appears to have shifted from signing an out-and-out winger to acquiring a number ten who can also operate out wide.
Madueke may well play minutes off the left, meaning the Gunners are less in need of a touchline winger, and can instead cover two bases with their final signing of the summer.
In the meantime, Tottenham have emerged as surprise suitors for Rodrygo, leapfrogging Arsenal in the race to land the Brazilian.
Spanish publication AS have gone a step further, claiming Spurs are now the ‘only club in a position to pursue’ Rodrygo.
The report suggests Berta is a huge admirer of the player’s talent, but the Gunners’ cash flow has ‘dwindled’ after finalising the signing of Gyokeres.
This has left Tottenham as the frontrunners for the player, although it remains to be seen whether he will be enticed by a move to the Lilywhites.
Son Heung-Min is a target for LAFC this summer, and it’s likely that Daniel Levy views Rodrygo as the South Korean’s long-term successor.

Arsenal should sign Rodrygo instead of Eberechi Eze
In theory, acquiring someone like Eze, who can operate out wide and as an attacking midfielder, makes sense for Arsenal.
However, the Gunners’ captain, Martin Odegaard, will play the majority of the minutes centrally, while the Norwegian has the likes of Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman developing underneath him.
Signing Eze would arguably take some minutes from these aforementioned youngsters, and potentially block their development.

The Crystal Palace man is also entering the latter stages of his prime, having turned 27 in June, and may only be capable of giving Arsenal two or three more years at the highest level.
£68 million is a significant fee for a player of this age bracket who may also prevent emerging talents from becoming superstars.
Meanwhile, Rodrygo is an instant upgrade on Gabriel Martinelli, won’t block Nwaneri or Dowman, and has several years ahead of him before he starts declining.
