Arsenal have engineered a messy situation when it comes to their goalkeeping options, and it now appears that one is nearing the exit door.
There was much surprise when Mikel Arteta signed David Raya this summer, despite Aaron Ramsdale impressing last season, and the Spaniard has now overtaken him in the pecking order.
Raya has received criticism for his performances so far, but Arteta has stuck with him as the first-choice option in the Premier League and Champions League.
Although Ramsdale has spoken about how he relishes the competition with the former Brentford goalkeeper, it has now emerged that he could depart in the January transfer window.
Ramsdale open to Arsenal exit in January
A report from TEAMTALK has now claimed that Ramsdale is open to the idea of leaving the club in January, as he aims to play regularly to try and claim a spot at the European Championships this summer.
Arsenal are open to letting Ramsdale leave, but they would prefer a permanent exit rather than a loan, and would want a fee of at least double the £30m total package they paid for him in 2021.
Ramsdale signed a new £120k-per-week contract this summer, but it seems that his days at Arsenal may soon come to an end.
Is Arteta being hypocritical over Ramsdale?

When Raya came in, Arteta spoke about the benefits of having two top goalkeepers, and even hinted that he could rotate or substitute them both.
Although Raya has shown glimpses of his quality, and may eventually settle with a run in the team after his nervy start, Ramsdale’s lack of opportunities, particularly in the Champions League, is surprising given Arteta’s comments.
If Arteta was genuine about having two top goalkeepers, then it would be a surprise if he is willing to let Ramsdale leave so soon. Right now, it seems that Arteta simply prefers Raya for his long passing ability, and spotted the opportunity to bring him in to replace Ramsdale in the summer.
