Arsenal Insider understands that Liverpool are confident of striking a deal for Isak and are willing to smash their current record transfer of £77million.
A figure around the £120million mark could be enough to land the Swedish striker, if he decides against staying at Newcastle.
TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey gave an update on the situation as he told Arsenal Insider: “So the Isak situation never has been or will be straightforward.
“It is inevitable that one of two things will happen: he signs a new deal at Newcastle or he leaves. If it is the latter, then it is highly likely to be Arsenal or Liverpool.
“Arsenal like Isak a lot, Arteta wants him, but as with any top player, it is never that easy. We are going to see twists and turns in this whole situation, but I can confirm Liverpool are confident of getting him.
“Have Arsenal ever had such confidence? I am not so sure, but this is not over by any stretch.”
